About Colorado Springs

With a population of about 400,000, Colorado Springs is a beautiful Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and most populous city in El Paso County. Colorado Springs is the second largest city in the state of Colorado and is located just 61 miles south of Denver. In 2006, Colorado Springs was named No. 1 Best Big City in “Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine. Colorado Springs first started as a resort community, but today the city has merged with the older mining supply center of Colorado City and has been developed into a modern urban area. Tourism is a major part of Colorado Springs’s economy, with many great activities and attractions available there.

Although the city offers excellent dining, shopping, and entertainment opportunities, it is the excellent natural features and attractions that draw visitors to the city. Colorado Springs is home to numerous parks, bike trails, open areas, theaters, business districts, and other forms of entertainment. The city is especially popular for Pikes Peak, which is located nearby. Other popular attractions in Colorado Springs include Garden of the Gods park, the United States Air Force Academy, Seven Falls, Cave of the Winds, and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
